COBB COUNTY, Ga. -
At least one person was killed in a multiple-vehicle crash on Interstate 285 near Interstate 75 in Cobb County on Thursday, according to Georgia Department of Transportation officials.
6:55 P.M. -- All lanes of I-285 have been reopened. Traffic remains heavy on Interstate 75 south due to the crash, Atlanta Braves and Falcons games.
6:15 P.M. -- Officials said that two left lanes are now open on I-285. There is no word when the roads will be completely reopen.
6:00 P.M. -- According to Cobb County police, at least one person was killed in the accident. A passenger in a pickup truck died at the scene, while the driver was transported to the hospital. That person's condition is not immediately known. Authorities said they would attempt to open a couple of lanes to get traffic moving in a short while.
5:30 PM -- Five vehicles and a tractor-trailer collided around 4:30 p.m., according to GDOT officials.
All lanes closed on I-285 eastbound just east of 75 were closed after the accident. Traffic is being directed to I-75 around this accident.
The lanes are expected to be blocked for at least a couple of hours.
Police said that motorists should not take I-285 NB from I-20. Instead, they should take I-20 to the Downtown Connector and then go north on I-75. Motorists who have passed the I-20 exit should exit anywhere prior to the Chattahoochee River Bridge if headed north and eastbound, police said.
