Man hopes iPhone app leads to laptop thieves

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -

A Clayton County man is hoping an app on his iPhone will help solve a crime. Thousands of dollars of electronics were stolen from his home, but with the iCam app he can at least see who has some of his belongings.

The app allows your computer camera to capture images of any movement in front of it. The images are then sent to your phone. It can be used for anything from home security to a baby monitor.

The victim in Clayton County, who asked not to be identified, said he installed the app on his laptop, which was recently stolen.

He said that now he can see pictures of strangers sitting in front of his computer.

"I was able to watch live and actually hear talking and see them at the same time," said the man.

The iCam app has become one of the most popular security applications.

"The technology is there and what you're going to use it for is definitely up to you…look over your house, look over your pets, look over the activity in your front yard," said Sam Schlam of iHospital.

With the iCam app, any time someone walks by the computer, it streams video and sound. It also saves the images.

"It triggers it. It records for as long as the activity is going on," said Schlam.

The Clayton County man also had TVs, Playstations and other computers taken. He's confident the photos from the icCam will help him get his things back.

"We didn't have nothing to go off on. No fingerprints, no anything – so this is the only thing that I had to give to the police so they can have some kind of lead to go off on," said the man. "Hoping it helps...looking forward to maybe getting my stuff back."

FOX 5 blurred out the photos on the man's iPhone so the people could not be identified. Typically the video and photos are crystal clear.
