Shots fired at DeKalb County home

Posted: Updated:
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

An east Atlanta couple and their four daughters are on edge after someone fired several shots at their house. John and Andrea Williams say someone intentionally opened fire on their Cavanaugh Road home as the family slept early Monday.

A ceramic dish shattered when it was hit by one of four bullets fired from outside the home.

The couple's four children were in the house.

"My two littlest ones are in the front room, so if he had came back and decided to shoot anymore, who's to say it wouldn't have hit one of those," said Williams.

Someone fired two other rounds into the couple's car.

As his wife and children hid, John Williams called 911, fearing the unknown gunman might return.

The Williams say it took four calls to 911 and 2.5 hours to get DeKalb police to respond. They claim the one officer who did arrive never entered their home to examine the bullet holes inside. They also claim the officer left behind a bullet casing they found in the car.

While they're grateful no one was injured, they're also frustrated. They insist DeKalb police haven't taken the crime seriously. They said they are scared to go outside now.

DeKalb police say they are reviewing the family's 911 calls from that night and investigating the dispatch and response times after the shooting.
