City Council in Pontiac is trying to reclaim power it lost when the state appointed an emergency financial manager in 2011 for the cash-strapped city.

City Council on Monday approved a resolution demanding that authority over all city finances and financial decision-making be restored to the mayor and council.

Mayor Leon Jukowski, however, says he plans to veto the resolution.

Jukowski works as an adviser to Louis Schimmel, Pontiac's emergency manager. Schimmel says he's looking for guidance from the state on how to proceed.

Emergency managers are appointed to turn around poor cities and schools. Michigan voters will get the chance this fall to repeal the state's emergency manager law.

Last week, Flint's City Council took steps to block its emergency manager.
