Police are looking for the person who used scissors to cut off parts of a puppy's ears in LaGrange, Ga.
The 3-month-old Italian mastiff was found alone on a busy street last week. The person who found the dog called police because the dog's ears had apparently been mangled in a homemade attempt to keep them up.
"It was done so horrifically that we really feel that it probably was done to hurt the animal," said Cathy Roth of the Barking Hound Village Foundation.
Roth's foundation took the puppy in and administered antibiotics.
Days later, the dog ended up with a foster family in Mableton, who named her "Ginger."
"It was heartbreaking. They were so crusty and raw and you could just tell that she wants to be loved, but somebody had not treated her well," said Deb Ferbrache, Ginger's foster owner.
Captain Mike Pheil of the LaGrange Police Department said authorities are handling it as a criminal case of animal cruelty.
Anyone with information on Ginger's original owner is asked to contact LaGrange police.
