Atlanta Life set to leave Auburn Ave. for downtown

ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Life Financial Group is set to leave Auburn Avenue after more than 90 years with an office on the street.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://bit.ly/RGbwhp ) reports that the company has inked a deal to relocate to two floors at the 50-story One Ninety One Peachtree tower.

The company decided earlier this year to sell its headquarters on Auburn Avenue to Georgia State University. The move is set to be complete in November.

Atlanta Life Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Atlanta Life Financial Group, was founded more than a century ago by Alonzo F. Herndon, a former slave. The insurance company was created when blacks had nowhere else to buy insurance.

The company has been on Auburn Avenue since 1920.
