Jayden Stokes died at a Jonesboro apartment complex on July 11. The 2-year-old lived at the apartment with his three brothers, his mother and her boyfriend, Kembra Matthews.
The circumstances of the boy's death were unclear. A police report indicates doctors said there were no signs of trauma to the body.
A police report indicates that it was Matthews who said Jayden was unresponsive and the other children were sick. That's when he rushed to get help. The children's mother was not home.
FOX 5 has learned that police have arrested Matthews on charges of cruelty to children and aggravated assault for injuries. They say he is responsible for the injuries Jayden's 4-year-old brother Ashton suffered during that same episode.
Gary Stokes, the father of Jayden and his twin brother, said he was relieved to learn of Matthews' arrest.
"I can honestly say there is an inch of relief because Ashton is getting his justice also and I know it's going to come for Jayden," said Stokes.
The death of Jayden is still an open investigation. Police have not said if Matthews is a suspect in that case.
