DeKalb police fire sergeant charged with obstruction

Posted: Updated:
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

The DeKalb County Police Department terminated an officer charged with obstruction.

Sgt. Jerry Banks was arrested in May and charged after officers tried to enter the home of Sherise McMoore in Lithonia.

An internal affairs investigation found banks violated departmental policies of conduct unbecoming an officer and violating the law.

A few weeks earlier, the sergeant's wife, Gaylor Banks, was beaten and robbed in front of the couple's home.

Police have made no arrests in the case.
