Crews resume work on $1B Buckhead development

ATLANTA -

At least 500 jobs are being created with the restart of a $1 billion Buckhead development.

The project will include apartment buildings, office space and retail shops on a six block site of what used to be the Buckhead party district in northwest Atlanta.

In recent years, the space has been known as "the hole" after it stalled in 2009.

Crews resumed the project on Tuesday.

Development director Hunter Richardson said that the space will allows residents to live, eat, work and shop all in one place.

Richardson said shops will include both high-end and "best in class" retail shops. He wouldn't reveal which retailers would be a part of the project.

The development is expected to open at the beginning of 2014.
