Teenager drowns in northeast Georgia lake

TALLULAH FALLS, Ga. (AP) - Authorities say a teenage boy drown while swimming with friends in a northeast Georgia lake in the Tallulah Falls area.

Rabun County sheriff's Capt. Gerald Johnson tells WDUN Radio (http://bit.ly/QzmXWJ) that 17-year-old Jordan Phimmachack of Habersham County began struggling and had trouble staying above the surface as the teens swam in Tallulah Falls lake Monday afternoon.

Johnson said another teenager in the group tried to help him to the water's edge, but was unsuccessful.

Dive teams were called to the scene, and Phimmachack's body was recovered from the water around 7:30 p.m.

Tallulah Falls Lake is about 90 miles northeast of Atlanta, in the mountains of northeast Georgia.
