HENRY COUNTY, Ga. -

Nearly 40,000 students are heading back to class in Henry County on Monday, but not all of them will be sitting in a traditional classroom as a new online program makes its debut.

In the past 20 years, Henry County has grown from 12 schools to 50 schools.  There are no new buildings this year, but the district is following the trend of online education and premiering a full course load for 9th and 10th graders.

"Students can take online courses at home, but also participate in extracurricular activities at their home school," said Steve Thompson of the Impact Academy.

"Our teachers are working in their online platform, getting courses ready for the students to arrive virtually on Monday," said Dr. Brian Blanton.

Meanwhile, traditional classroom teachers spent the weekend putting the finishing touches on their classrooms.  Janitors put a last shine on building floors, and teachers got their final pep talk.  Though the school year is new, Superintendent Ethan Hildreth says parents and students can have the same expectations.

"They can expect teachers and school support staff members who are there to help them achieve, to grow, to learn and to enjoy a successful school year ahead," said Henry County Schools Superintendent Ethan Hildreth.

Henry County is proud of its academic success, and they credit that to the surrounding business community.  In all, 220 businesses host students in work-based learning opportunities.
