JONESBORO, Ga. -
Police and SWAT units responded to an apartment complex in Clayton County late Friday night.
Authorities were called out to the Point South Apartments complex in Jonesboro after receiving a call about an armed man holding a woman and her child hostage inside one of the apartments.
Police say the call was related to a report of a home invasion that happened earlier that night.
Officials were able to determine that the mother and child were safe and out of the apartments.
Negotiators and SWAT units were able to take the man into custody after several hours.
Neighbors were evacuated from the area during that time.
The suspect's mother was also taken into custody after police say she withheld vital information.
Neither name of the suspects has been released by the Clayton County Police Department.
