It was a special dedication for some Austell school students displaced by an historic flood. It was a bigger than normal celebration this year as children prepared to head back to class.
Clarkdale Elementary School is celebrating its 50th anniversary by cutting the ribbon to its new state of the art facility. The school was destroyed three years ago in what was said to a hundred year flood.
Since then, the students of Clarkdale Elementary School have been going to two different schools. Saturday's festivities mark their departure from Compton Elementary and Austell Intermediate School, and reunite the school back together under one roof.
Parents and students got the chance to tour their new school as they prepare to head back to school.
Longtime principal, Marjorie Bickerstaff, says the school is also growing. They are expecting 300 more students when school starts next Monday, putting the student population at around 700. They also have 14 more teachers.
