Crowds jump fences at Lolla, man stabbed outside festival

Chicago police had their hands full with the crowds at Lollapalooza on Friday night, when teenagers decided to climb the fences and a man was stabbed on Michigan Avenue.
Paramedics responded just before 7 to a stabbing at South Michigan Avenue and East Adams Street . The man was taken in stable condition to Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Meanwhile, FOX Chicago News got video of people scrambling over the fences to get into the festival for free. This was also an issue last year, and festival organizers tried to preempt the problem by installing better fences. Clearly, it wasn't a fool-proof solution; the guards were outnumbered and the fences were easily knocked over.
"Everyone congregated on the corner. It was probably 3-hundred people and they were like 1-2-3 let's go. Security looked at us and said guys bring it," one concert goer said.
The fence they rushed was at Monroe and Lake Shore. People we spoke with said they knew what they were doing was wrong, but they felt they had a good reason: they love music, and tickets were sold out already.
Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said that his officers would be in uniform and undercover during the festival this weekend and would not hesitate to step in.
"At the end of the day, we're in charge and they know we're in charge," McCarthy said. "And if we need to make a call -- we will make a call to shut things down."
