FAYETTE COUNTY, Ga. -

A Fayette County family was lucky to escape serious injury after lightning struck their home on Thursday.

The strike caused and electrical charge to surge through an awning over the back porch where they were gathered.

"It hit the metal table, which my sister-in-law had her feet propped on and she was on the cell phone. She's the one that got hit the most. Two of my four children were shocked. My mother was shocked. We were all taken to the hospital and checked out and everybody seemed to be OK," said Mindy Mullins.

There were no serious injuries.
