Atlanta's police chief says his department is putting additional manpower on the streets of neighborhoods beset by crime.
Chief George Turner has identified hot spots for crimes. He said the added patrols will be highly visible and include community involvement.
One of the areas that will see extra police presence is the Virginia Highlands neighborhood. In the last couple of weeks, three homes have been broken into and a woman had her purse snatched.
Atlanta City Councilmember Michael Bond, the public safety chairman, said he has been briefed on the plan. He said officers will be deployed all around the city.
"Little Five Points area, around the Atlanta University Center, around the west end MARTA station and the West End Mall -- those are all areas that students, when they come back into town in the next few months, that they frequent," said Bond.
