LOVEJOY, Ga. -
Police in Spalding County arrested a man wanted in connection with the alleged assault of a woman at her home in Lovejoy.
The woman said she met the man at a gas station on Tara Boulevard.
"Real charming, you know. I would never see this coming," she said.
Authorities say the suspect went to the victim's home late in the evening of July 28. After a short time inside the home, they say the suspect choked and beat the 39-year-old woman, threw her on the floor and hit her head several times with a cast iron skillet.
In a phone interview, the victim told FOX 5's Chris Shaw that her attacker showed no emotion.
"He gets pleasure out of this and he doesn't care who he does it to," the woman said.
Before the suspect left the victim's home, he ransacked the home and stole her blue 2005 Toyota Corolla with Georgia tag AGI-7082, according to police.
The woman was able to crawl to a neighbor's house for help. She said her children gave her the will to live.
She is being treated at a hospital. Doctors said she should fully recover.
The suspect, 27-year-old Rakheem Jerome Byrd, was taken into custody on Thursday, according to Spalding County Police Sgt. Michael Gaddis.
