ATLANTA -

Voters overwhelmingly rejected a one cent transportation sales tax on Tuesday. The metro area's T- SPLOST referendum went down in defeat, with 63 percent of the voters saying no.

"This should send a wake up call to elected officials of both parties that people are tired of you asking us for our tax money when you've not proven that you can spend what you have, wisely," said Debbie Dooley of the Atlanta Tea Party

"We've gotta listen so much harder, so much more intensely. And we have to get at the issue of why so many good, decent, honest women and men don't trust their government enough to take on a big problem," said Atlanta's Mayor Kasim Reed.

Reed said he would work with T-SPLOST's opponents to come up with an alternative solution to Atlanta's traffic problems.
