Fulton County reported major problems at the polls on Tuesday.
Fulton County resident Erich Harvey says he was given the wrong ballot in his Reynoldstown neighborhood. He recognized the mistake and brought it to the pollster's attention.
"I was told to see someone at another table," said Harvey. "They had to make sure I had the proper card, as opposed to using the card they would have issued me if I hadn't brought it up."
Harvey was voting at his polling station on Flat Shoals Avenue.
"My card says 58, but based on the demographics of the map, I'm in 59," said Harvey.
Secretary of State Brian Kemp says his office has received a lot of complaints. They've opened an investigation as to why some voters in districts 58 and 59 were given the wrong ballot.
"That's something that has concerned us and we've tried to reach out to Fulton County and just have not had a good line of communication there," said Kemp. "We certainly look forward to working with them to figure out what is going on and to correct the problem but it is concerning."
Fulton County's Department of Registration and Elections said it was a database error affecting about 300 voters in southeast Atlanta. They say they've fixed the problem.
The Secretary of State's office says the error doesn't just affect ballots cast on Tuesday, but affects anyone who voted early or absentee.
The mistake could affect two House races.
Margaret Kaiser, who is running for the Georgia House seat 59, is the incumbent in one of those races. She says some of her constituents received incorrect voter cards six weeks ago.
"The grain of our electoral process is that every vote counts, and in this case every vote is not counting," said Kaiser.
William Phelps, who challenged Kaiser, says he wants a new election.
"I think people need to be able to go back out and revote for who they feel is going to adequately represent them, whether it's myself or my opponent," said Phelps.
Kemp says he's hoping to get answers on Wednesday. He says there's no way to fix any ballots that may have been filed incorrectly -- they would have to hold another election to do that.
