UGA senior earns Army leadership award

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) - A University of Georgia senior has earned a leadership award from the U.S. Army Cadet Command.

The school says Orry Young received the Warrior Forge Commander's Leadership Award at his graduation this month from the Leader Development and Assessment Course at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington. He was ranked first among more than 200 cadets in his training company in the 29-day program.

More than 6,000 college students attend Operation Warrior Forge each summer. Cadets are tested on their physical stamina, endurance and their ability to navigate difficult terrain as well as their team-building and leadership skills.

Young is majoring in history and minoring in military science. He is set to be the student commander of more than 100 cadets in the Bulldog Battalion during the upcoming academic year.
