Police arrested a 14-year-old boy after several explosives were found in a Canton home on Monday.
CANTON, Ga. -
Police arrested a 14-year-old boy after several explosives were found in a Canton home on Monday.
Authorities said six explosives were found in a home on Woodbury Lane in the River Green subdivision.
"We located several explosive devices which appear to be pipe bombs," said Canton Police Assistant Chief Todd Vande Zande.
Authorities said they also found material to make more pipe bombs.
"From their appearance they look to be extremely dangerous, but we don't know what the contents of each device is, that's why they're being sent to be analyzed. But they did have the appearance of being legitimate explosive devices," said Vande Zande.
Police said GBI and ATF bomb technicians were able to safely remove the explosives. They said they didn't know of any actual threat to use the explosives. They did not say who tipped them off about the explosives.
Neighbors said that the 14-year-old has recently had behavioral problems. They also said that a small explosion was set up at a pool bathroom not far from where the boy lives.
Police have not commented if there is a connection between that incident and Monday's arrest.
The 14-year-old is charged as a juvenile with manufacturing and the distribution of destructive devices.
