A Georgia newcomer won $2.5 million from the Millionaire Jumbo Bucks lottery game.
Joseph Burnette, a 31-year-old carnival who moved from Virginia two weeks ago, bought the ticket at the CITGO on Highway 138 in Stockbridge.
"As I started to pump gas, I got the $20 ticket, I got the thirteenth ticket and it said $2.5 million and I stumbled. I headed back towards the door and I say, ‘Hey, what is this? Is this fake?' And he scanned it and he said, ‘No, it says present for claim to lottery headquarters.' And I didn't sleep that night," said Burnette.
He cashed it in at the lottery headquarters on Wednesday. On Thursday, he was back at work preparing his concession stands for carnival goers at Arbor Place Mall in Douglasville.
"It changes your life. One week you're worried about paying your bills, the next week you're not," said Burnette.
Burnette said he's been at the carnival for a couple of months. Even though he's a couple of million dollars richer, he says he won't quit his job.
"Now I can just have fun and relax and enjoy stuff," said Burnette.
Burnette says he will invest some of the money and will buy a car and a computer.
Burnette says the most he'd ever won before Tuesday's windfall was $500.. He won it playing a Georgia Lottery instant game.
