ATLANTA -

Police say two people were shot during an attempted home invasion in northeast Atlanta on Friday.

According to Atlanta police, a man sitting at his home on Drew Drive saw a van pull up. A man exited the vehicle, and knocked on the door of the home. A second male then got out of the van and joined the first man. They then tried to kick in the door, but the homeowner shot them.

The two suspects then fled to a van and drove off, according to Atlanta Police Officer John Chafee.

The van ran into another vehicle and the suspects fled. One of the suspects who had been shot – apparently a 15-year-old male – collapsed on the sidewalk.

Samson Lai said he saw the shot person and called 911.  Lai said that it appeared he had been shot twice in the shoulder.

The two people shot are in stable condition at Grady Hospital. A third suspect, possibly the getaway driver, escaped into the woods, police said.

The homeowner told police he did not know the suspects.

Police are checking to see if the van may have been stolen. They are not sure if the suspects were armed.
