FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga -
A portion of Dawsonville Highway in Forsyth County near the Hall County line was closed for several hours Friday morning as police investigated a deadly head-on crash.
According to a spokesperson with the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, a car traveling over on Dawsonville Highway on the bridge over Lake Lanier drifted into the path of on-coming traffic. The car struck a commercial box truck.
The driver of the car was killed. The driver of the truck was transported to an area hospital and is expected to survive.
Forsyth fire crews worked to quickly extinguish a fire in the box truck which started due to the crash.
Officials say they were checking the bridge for any potential damage, but believe there will only be superficial damage to the guardrail.
The road opened around 2 p.m.
