POLK COUNTY, Ga. -
Authorities in Polk County say one person was killed after a plane crash on Friday.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office says the plane crashed in Cedartown near Treat Mountain Road. The area is a remote, hilly section of western Polk County near the Alabama line.
Haralson County authorities arrived on the scene
and found the small aircraft on the road on fire, according to Polk County Fire
and EMA Director Randy Lacey.
NTSB Air Safety
Investigator Corky Smith said that he found nothing wrong with the airframe or
flight control.
Officials said the
plane was flying in overhead conditions at the time of the crash.
The FAA identified the plane as a Vans RV4, an experimental aircraft. The FAA said many of the planes are in use and they are recognized as stable aircraft.
The pilot was on the only person aboard the plane, according to investigators.
The plane's flight plan was not immediately known, according to investigators.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will perform an autopsy.
