Woman from Cumming spreads message of positivity

CUMMING, Ga. -

It can be tough to start a business, but Mary Guenther is learning that when you have good intentions and a good message, good things can happen. Her message is positivity.

That message will get a global audience after her business will be a part of the Teen Choice Awards on Sunday.

Guenther is a busy mom with two growing teenage boys. Every year she looked forward to a vacation with her girlfriends. She says her friend Adrienne spent much of the time trying to convince the others to start a business together.

"We never could kind of come up with what the idea was," said Guenther.

It wasn't until after Adrienne passed away from cancer that an idea came to her. Guenther says Adrienne was a woman who loved life, and was the life of the party. Inspired by Adrienne's love of life and her own mother's love of hugs, Guenther started TxtHugs T-shirts out of her Cumming home.

"People get, have negative attitudes and they look at promoting negative things and I wanted something to be positive and hugging seemed to be that thing," Guenther said.

The line of shirts features the popular double parentheses which the universal language for a hug. Inside the hugs are words like hope, peace to you, or girls rock.

"The younger kids, they're text all the time, my kids text all the time and I want it to be positive. I want it to be encouraging. It doesn't always have to be nasty stuff that we're sharing with each other," said Guenther.

The positivity is spreading. Guenther recently found out her shirts will be included in the 2012 Teen Choice Awards Sunday night. They'll be given to celebrity presenters, and possibly turning an inspired idea into a global message.

"So, that's the message is be positive and encourage each other and use the media for good things," said Guenther.

Guenther also makes a line of shirts featuring the text phrase 'g2g', which means got to go. Those shirts will also be given to celebrity presenters. The Teen Choice Awards airs Sunday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on FOX 5.
