Summer fun should be for everyone, especially when it comes to kids who have had a military mom or dad wounded during war. Camp Corral is a one-of-a-kind camp held in Dahlonega. Counselors get kids' minds off all the bad stuff and make them focus on just being a kid.
The more than 200 kids attending the summer camp have a few things in common: they all have parents who are service members, wounded or disabled during war.
The goal of Camp Corral is to offer some much-needed support to military families by offering the children a chance to have fun.
Camp Corral is their escape from military life.
Jasmine Phillips father was injured while serving overseas.
"It's kind of hard because he can't really walk well because he got wounded in his foot," said Jasmine.
It's not easy for wounded or disabled parents to return home, but, it is extremely difficult for the kids, because they also have to adjust. That's when a good counselor comes in handy.
"It's a great honor to be able to help these kids out. Sometimes, in the majority of the cases, they only have parent in the home. I feel like it's the least that I could do to give back to them," said Matthew Pace.
Golden Corral restaurants sponsored the entire week.
