Library OKs art of pastors, then orders it removed

GRAYSON, Ga. (AP) - A Georgia artist is questioning a metro Atlanta library's change of heart about displaying his artwork.

At issue is an exhibit consisting of portraits of 8 well-known preachers -- such as Texas megachurch pastor Joel Osteen --- which was on display at the Grayson Branch Library.

The artist, Ralph Beach of Lawrenceville, said he was told the art could be displayed until early August.

However, Beach was asked to take it down after a library patron complained.

A library official tells The Gwinnett Daily Post (http://bit.ly/MkEgt3) that the scope of the display wasn't realized until it was fully installed.

Barbara Spruill, branch services division director for Gwinnett County Public Library, says the library strives to offer the community a broad perspective, and that what happened with Beach is unfortunate.
