Police are searching for a man they say tried to grab a woman as she jogged in a Fayetteville neighborhood last week. Jennifer Nguyen, 18, said as she was jogging, a man pulled up and pointed a gun at her, and then told her to get in the car.
"I hesitated but I didn't stop. I just kept going, kept running and I picked up my phone and acted like I was on it and started screaming, ‘Someone's following me, someone's following me,'" said Nguyen.
Jennifer says the man continued to follow her for a while before finally leaving. She says she was terrified, but she did manage to get a good look at him.
Police have released a sketch of the suspect, whom the victim says is in his early to mid 20's with curly hair and a full beard. She says he spoke in broken English, and was driving an older model, small red car with paint chipping off of the hood.
Police say Jennifer did the right thing by running away instead of following the man's demands and getting in the car. They say that one single decision may have saved her life.
"When he said, ‘Get in the car,' not an inch of my body wanted to get in the car. All I was thinking about was running. Everything in my mind said, ‘Run, run, run,'" said Nguyen.
Nguyen says she wanted to tell her story because she wanted to get the man's image and the description of his car out to the public so that he's caught before he tries to kidnap someone else.
Anyone who recognizes the man is urged to contact Fayetteville police at 770-461-4441.
