Clay eggs find new nest at learning center

COHUTTA, Ga. -

Paul Milliken's travels have taken us to some pretty odd places in Georgia. We've seen a mysterious granite monument and a museum dedicated to lunch boxes. In Cohutta, he found a man with a passion for eggs – eggs made out of clay.

The clay eggs are exact replicas of more than a 1,000 species of birds.

The machine used to create the eggs is called a Symmetricizer. Zachery Reynolds says his grandfather, C.E. Blevins, thought up the device while dreaming.

"When he and my mother came back from a missionary trip from Africa about 25 years ago, he was looking for a hobby," said Joel Blevins, son of C.E. Blevins.

C.E. Blevins made the eggs until his death in 2011.

After years of nesting in a basement workshop, the family decided the collection needed a new shell. The C.E. Blevins Avian Learning Center is now the new nesting place of the clay eggs.

Reynolds is now mastering the Symmetricizer created by his grandfather. Who knows how many more eggs will be hatched in the future!
