ATLANTA -

If you haven't heard by now, Georgia is the place to be if you're a country artist. A new crop of native stars, such as Lady Antebellum, the Zac Brown Band, Sugarland, is paving the way for local artists to be noticed nationwide.

They're part of a burgeoning country music scene happening in the state.

"People like the down home life, the simple life, getting out on weekends and having a good time and think a lot of people relate to that," said Dan Seals of Georgia-country.com.

Seals started Georgia-country.com in 2010. It's the go-to website for country music in the state. He works to promote local acts. In two years, he's had around 4 million hits.

"Play their songs on the website, their videos. And we work with a lot of bands to actually promote their shows coming up every weekend," said Seals.

Joe Olds of the Joe Olds Band and Jason Blankenship of the Man Made Band say the country music landscape of Georgia has changed.

"The music that we play is more of what I grew up on, Waylon and Merle Haggard and George Strait. And when clubs would see that's your set list, first question I'd always get asked is 'Well how much rock do you play,'" said Olds.

Both say Atlanta venues, like Crave in Alpharetta, are opening their ears and their doors to acts like theirs. That means they no longer have to go begging to Nashville.

"The Georgia music scene is nothing like it used to be. There's just so much opportunity here now. People like Zac Brown and Colt Ford have really paved the way for individuals to make a splash in the scene," said Blankenship.

"Nashville is full of a lot of people like us and they're trying and they might deserve it more than we do. But there's so many people there. It's nice to be able to be in Georgia, make noise, get recognition here and let it grow from there," said Olds.

Zac Brown of the Zac Brown band has a record label called Southern Ground, which is based in Atlanta. For more information on country music in Georgia, click the following links:
