Strong winds, rain and dangerous lightning wreaked havoc in several places in north Georgia on Tuesday.
At one home in Newton County, downed trees hit Sara Strom's home and truck.
"I know that the whole front of the truck is completely gone," said Strom.
In Rockdale County, lightning damaged a home.
"We heard a very loud lightning strike, the loudest I ever heard," said Conyers resident Douglas Brown.
Brown says the next thing he knew his son's house, just down the road, was on fire.
"Somebody was driving by and saw the lightning hit house and immediately called the fire department, so they got out here real quick," said Brown.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the kitchen and another room. No one was inside the home and there were no injuries.
Brown just bought the home eight months ago for his son. Despite the home being damaged in the fire, he said that he felt blessed.
"Nobody hurt…give the credit to God. Right this minute I'm happy," said Brown.
Rockdale County's 911 center tower was also hit by lightning, which knocked out the consoles. Within minutes, the system was back up. Operators switched to portables before moving then to the Conyers Police Department system.
