Michael Rothenberg is charged with six counts of theft. Michael Rothenberg is charged with six counts of theft.
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

A DeKalb County grand jury has indicted an attorney who is running to unseat DeKalb Superior Court Judge Gail Flake. The indictment charges Michael Rothenberg with six counts of theft.

DeKalb County District Attorney Robert James said that Rothenberg received more than $1.3 million in funds from a Colorado investment group. The government alleges that Rothenberg redirected more than $440,000 intended for investments for personal and campaign use.

The indictment alleges that Rothenberg transferred $250,000 to finance his campaign for superior judge, while he used $190,000 for personal expenses. The Dunwoody lawyer is accused of spending the money as places like Chick-Fil-A, Farm Burger -- even a massage parlor.

James said that Rothenberg has a previous Security and Exchange Commission judgement against him lodged by the same Colorado investment group. James said the investigation against Rothenberg has been ongoing for the past 18 months.

Rothenberg, 34, said he was shocked by the indictment and denied the charges.
