Video released in robbery of Georgia Tech student

ATLANTA -

Crime Stoppers has released new video in the robbery of a Georgia Tech student in his dorm room earlier this month.

The video starts by showing what authorities call the getaway vehicle arriving at a BP gas station on North Avenue just off the Georgia Tech campus early in the morning of July 1. A suspect, wearing a white shirt and red shorts, soon gets out of the vehicle.

The suspect, in his late teens to early 20's and armed with a handgun, can be seen walking around the gas station parking lot with another man.

Authorities say while at least one woman waited at the getaway vehicle, the two robbers walked to the nearby Georgia Tech North Avenue dorms.

"The North Avenue complex has outside, permanent card readers and each individual in the building has card access," said Georgia Tech Police Deputy Chief Robert Connolly,

According to authorities, the robbers got in by following a student through the security door. They then went to the top floor, staying closing to the stairwell so they'd have an easy exit route.

On the 7th floor they found a door to an apartment suite unlocked. Inside, they surprised the sleeping student. The suspects pulled out a gun and robbed him of a laptop, cell phone and wallet.

"Students know not to leave doors ajar, not to leave them propped open. Not allow anyone unauthorized into our facilities," said Connolly.

The video ends by showing the getaway vehicle leaving the gas station parking lot.

If anyone recognizes the people in the video, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS (8477).
