Supporters tout benefits of T-SPLOST

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Supporters of the transportation sales tax gathered along the Clifton Corridor in northeast Atlanta on Monday.

Proponents say thousands of metro Atlantans would benefit from the transit expansion project in that area to be funded by the one-penny tax.

Supporters describe it as critical to unclog congestion there and across the metro area.

If approved, the tax would fund more than $7 billion in transportation projects over 10 years.

Opponents charge the referendum is flawed and prefer options other than a sales tax to fund transportation projects.

The vote takes place on July 31.
