Putting photos of your credit card online may invite theft

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

To the younger generation who communicates through social media, apparently putting photos of their credit cards and debit cards on a Twitter account is not a crazy idea. The photos include the name and number of the account holder.

The account, called @needadebitcard, is putting them out there for the whole word to see. What the account does is to re-tweet pictures of people who proudly hold up their first debit card or a credit card they've finally paid off.

Putting photos of credit cards online could be an open invitation for theft. Atlanta tech security specialist David Barton says read the credit card user agreement. The cardholder might be on the hook for any fraudulent charges.

@needadebitcard went online in May and has fewer than 50 card numbers up. The twitter account has 10,000 followers, some of them could be thieves waiting for another teen to post their credit card number. All they need is one.
