The widow of one of the men struck by lightning in Peachtree City on Friday remembers her husband of 20 years fondly.
Yolonda Smith Hayes tells FOX 5 News that her husband, Burnette, was fishing with a friend Friday afternoon on the waters of Lake Peachtree when a storm rolled through the area. She says the pair ran to a nearby tree to try to take cover when lightning struck the tree.
Burnette, who family members called "BJ," was in cardiac arrest. He held on at the hospital through the night, but his heart stopped beating early Saturday morning.
The 52-year-old was a father of nine children ranging in age from 35 to just 5 years old. Yolonda says his death has changed their family forever.
