Volunteers help to renovate the Thomasville Recreation Center on Saturday, July 14, 2012.
ATLANTA -
Officials with Starbucks, the Boys & Girls Club of metro Atlanta and a city official will team up to revamp a recreation center.
Chief Service Officer Amy Phuong will also take part in the three-hour initiative on Saturday at the Thomasville Recreation Center. The center will be spruced up with painting and new furniture.
More than 100 volunteers are expected to help. Target and Staple have donated school supplies and book bags for more than 300 kids.
The center is one of the two pilot programs for Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed's Center of Hope initiative. The program is designed to provide youth with safe environments to improve their academic skills and engage in physical activities.
