Michelle Chinnis, 35, and Tracy Downer, 44, died when the car they were in was slammed by an 18-wheeler on Thornton Road in Douglas County on Wednesday.
Bruce Jackson, divisional vice-president for AutoTrader.com, said Michelle Chinnis and Tracy Downer were sales associates at the Atlanta-based company. He says he worked with Downer at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in the1990s and with Chinnis at AutoTrader since 2004.
The two were on a sales call when the fatal accident occurred. Downer had just begun her job.
"She'd been here just a few days. I think it was her second day in the field as a sales rep," said Jackson.
Chinnis was a single mom with a 16-year-old daughter was Downer was married with two children, aged 6 and 9. As the families plan for their funerals, their co-workers are planning ahead for their children.
"We're developing scholarship funds for both [sets of] kids so at least we can try to make sure they get to college," said Jackson.
Funerals for both women are taking place this weekend and on Monday.
Georgia State Patrol has not said if the 64-year-old truck driver involved will face any charges. He was not injured.
