GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -

More than a dozen children were injured in a church bus accident on Interstate 85 on Friday, authorities said.

Officials said that two buses from Trinity Catholic Church in Ocala, Fla. were carrying 39 children to a youth conference at the Gwinnett Arena.

Traffic was stalled on I-85 north near Steve Reynolds Boulevard due to tire debris on the road. One of buses crashed reared a bus carry a trailer, authorities said. Some windows of the bus were shattered.

Eighteen kids were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Their ages ranged from 10 to 16, according to Gwinnett County Police Department Officer Ross Hancock.

More buses were brought to the scene to take 31 other kids to their hotel.

Three lanes of traffic were closed for more than two hours, snarling afternoon traffic.
