Opponents of transportation tax hold rally in SE Atlanta

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

Opponents of a one-cent transportation sales tax rallied in southeast Atlanta on Thursday. State Senator Vincent Fort organized the event at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church.

Other community activists, religious leaders and concerned citizens turned out hoping to urge others to vote against the referendum.

Fort says the plan should be revisited in two years and it should include an expansion of MARTA.

Early voting on the referendum is already underway.

The proposed tax is designed to generate billions of dollars for road projects over the next 10 years.

Supporters say it would bring jobs, reduce gridlock and repair roads and bridges.
