Clayton County police are still trying to determine what killed a 2-year-old boy and left his 4-year-old stepbrother fighting for his life. The boy's father talked to FOX 5's Justin Gray on Thursday.
Gary Stokes' 2-year-old son Jayden died on Wednesday at an apartment complex in Jonesboro. Paramedics rushed to the Clayton County apartment where the children's mother lives with her boyfriend and where Jayden was found not breathing.
Jayden's twin, Jaylen, and his 4-year-old and 8-month-old step siblings were rushed to the hospital.
"He was like, ‘You already lost one, we need you to get to the hospital, the other one needs you," said Stokes said.
Cell phone video shows Jayden and twin Jaylen showing off at a family cookout this summer.
"Jayden would have came and shook your hand like a grown man gave you a hug and everything and this is just a 2-year-old child," said Stokes.
Jayden's twin Jaylen is OK and in state custody as is their 8-month-old step-sibling.
The 4-year-old who was also injured, who Stokes says he helped raise like a son, is at Children's Heathcare at Egleston.
Clayton County police say they're still sorting out the details of this mysterious situation.
"I know the mom won't do nothing to their children…I know that for a fact, sir. But I know for a fact something ain't right about the situation," said Stokes.
Police say they don't known how Jayden died. They're waiting for results from an autopsy
"I want my son right now. I swear to God. I want my son right now, I know his momma is hurting," said Stokes,"
Clayton County police say until they figure out the cause of death, they don't know if a crime took place.
