Law enforcement teams in Clayton County fanned out on Wednesday to see if registered sex offenders were complying with the law.
Twice a year, officials visit the 180 registered sex offenders in the county as part of the county's "Operation Save," which is designed to keep the community safe. It involves 45 officers from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, Woodstock and Canton police as well probation and parole departments.
Many sex offenders agree to let their homes be searched without a search as a condition of their release from jail.
"If they know at time, an officer can come into their house, come inside and search, they're less likely to have contraband material," said Capt. Joe Perkins of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office.
A tracking system is set up at the emergency operations center. Sex offenders are mapped out as they are located and verified. Green dots on the map mean that offenders have been verified, blue means contact hasn't been established and red dots indicate they are missing.
Investigators said that they made five arrests of registered sex offenders on Wednesday; 95 were verified.
