A Douglasville woman is recovering after being struck by lightning during Monday night's storm.
Mary Ezell was out walking when she got caught in the storm. The 59-year-old woman took shelter under a tree and began to pray.
"I just said, ‘Lord, please don't the lightning strike me,' because it was lightning so bad," said Ezell.
Ezell believes that prayer saved her life when lightening struck a nearby tree and sent violent waves of electricity coursing through her body.
"It took the top out of the tree and it just splintered the tree. And I guess the shock going into the ground went through me because I was wet. And I had on tennis shoes, so that probably saved me," said Ezell.
Stunned and badly hurt, Ezell somehow got on her feet and ran to a neighbor's house for help.
She suffered a torn retina and injured her arm. She is recovering at home after the terrifying ordeal she is thankful to be alive.
