ATLANTA -

Some residents in southeast Atlanta are cleaning up after Monday's storms flooded their homes.

Kevin Lynch, who owns a home on Atlanta Avenue, said that minutes after it began raining on Monday, the city sewer line behind his home overflowed and pumped sewer into his garage. He said the water sat in the garage for 30 minutes before receding.

"It's disgusting. It's just what you would imagine a sewer line overflowing. It's brown, thick, murky, feted water that pushes its way through the doors, under the walls and the water just rises up and carries away everything in its path," said Lynch.

Lynch says sewage water has flooded his house three times in four years, including Monday.

It took Lynch hours to get everything out of his garage. He said his next step is wash and sanitize items that are salvageable. He said he's complained repeatedly to the city, but nothing has been done.

Krystal Perkins, who moved in next door to Lynch six weeks ago, said she was shocked by the flood.

"Just having this happen really made me scared about being a homeowner, somewhat," said Perkins.

Atlanta water officials said that they have found no evidence of a sewage overflow from Monday's storms. They said they are still investigating. They said they have cleaned out two sewer lines.

Homeowners in the area said they have retained an attorney over the matter.
