Storms bring downed trees, hail to metro Atlanta area

Laverne Talley sent FOX 5 a picture of a huge tree that fell on her house around 9 p.m. in southwest Atlanta. No one was hurt.

The metro Atlanta area saw downed trees, heavy rain and lightning as well as power outages as severe thunderstorms moved in on Monday night.
A large tree went through a home on Copeland Avenue in southwest Atlanta. The homeowner, Laverne Talley, wasn't home at the time. When she did get home, she found out the tree went through her roof into her dining room.
"I called my insurance company first. They haven't arrived yet. I called the fire department. I called the police," said Talley.
In Decatur, a tree crashed onto a power line off of Delano Drive. When firefighters arrived they found smoke coming from a power line on the ground.
Downed trees blocked two lanes of Interstate 75 near West Paces Road. Crews had to work quickly to clear the road to get traffic moving again.
Driving was dangerous on Miami Circle in Buckhead as water was more than a foot deep in some sections of the road.
In Douglas County, an 11-year-old dog was killed when a tree fell on her dog house. A woman in the county was reportedly struck by lightning, and is expected to be okay.
There were reports of hail in Mountain City in Gwinnett County, while trees were reported down in Morgan County.
According to a tweet from Georgia Power, less than 1,800 customers statewide were without electricity at 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Around 1,200 of those were located in metro Atlanta area, and 500 in northwest Georgia.
