ELLIJAY, Ga. -

Need a place to stay cool this summer?  Lake Conasauga, located in the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest, may be just the place for you!

It is a beautiful 19-acre spring-fed lake resting near Grassy Mountain, about 20 miles from Ellijay and Chatsworth, Georgia. Reaching an elevation of nearly 2,000 feet, it is the highest lake and campground in the state.

Families can enjoy camping in a quiet setting which offers cool summertime temperatures. Visitors can hike to the Songbird Management area or to the Grassy Mountain tower. Fishing and swimming are also an option, as well as enjoying the plants and wildlife.

The area is remote, limiting cell phone service.

"It is a remote setting, and that's one of the reasons it is popular for a lot of our visitors," said Acting District Ranger Mike Davis.

To get to  Lake Conasauga, take U.S. 411 north from Chatsworth for four miles to Eton. Turn right at the traffic light in Eton. Follow Forest Service Road 18 east for 10 miles, then turn left on Forest Service Road 68 for 10 miles.
