ATLANTA -

TMZ.com reports that Usher's 11-year-old stepson has been declared brain dead following a jet ski accident that happened on Lake Lanier.  The celebrity news website says Kile Glover, the son of Usher's ex-wife, was badly hurt when he and another girl were hit by a jet ski on Friday afternoon.

According to a Georgia Department of Natural Resources incident report, the driver of the jet ski was 38-year-old Jeffrey Hubbard, who was at the lake with a large group of family and friends, including the two children.  DNR officials say the group rented two jet skis and a pontoon boat for the day. The children were in an inner tube when they were struck by the jet ski.

Both children were airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston after the accident.  The 15-year-old girl suffered a broken arm and lacerations on her head.  Hall County officials confirmed that the boy was in critical condition after suffering head injuries, but they have not confirmed his identity.

TMZ.com reported Sunday that the boy had been declared brain dead.

Usher and Kile's mother, Tameka Foster Raymond, divorced in 2009.  TMZ.com reports the singer chartered a plane for his ex-wife, who was out of town when the accident happened, so that she could rush to her son's side.  The website reports Usher also arrived at the hospital on Saturday night.

Authorities say alcohol was not a factor in the accident.  They say Hubbard was interviewed and they remain in contact with him, but he has not been charged.  After the investigation is completed, DNR officials will turn their recommendation over to the district attorney, who will then decide whether or not charges will be filed.

The DNR's Critical Incident Response Team recreated the accident as they try to piece together exactly what happened.  They used special computer programs to try to determine how fast both the boat and the jet ski were going at the time of the crash.
