Police search for hit-and-run driver after crash on I-75 in Henry County

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -

Police are searching for the driver of a black SUV they say caused an accident on Interstate 75 in Henry County on Sunday afternoon that sent five people to area hospitals.

The northbound lanes of Interstate 75 were closed for several hours just north of Hudson Bridge Road around 3:30 p.m. while rescue crews worked to extricate on of those inside the vehicle.

Henry County police say a black SUV struck another vehicle and sent it into the woods on the side of the busy interstate. Witnesses tell police that SUV, which sustained damage to the front passenger quarter panel, continued on the highway into Clayton County.

Three people were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital by ambulance and one was flown to the Atlanta Medical Center. The fifth patient, who had to be extricated from the vehicle, was also transported to by air to an area hospital.

The names of those in the vehicle have not yet been released.
