Atlanta charter school closing over money cut

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA -

A charter school in Atlanta is closing because of a funding cut and its 200 students must find a new place to attend classes.

Officials with Atlanta Tech High said it is shutting down after an eight-year-run because of a $360,000 budget cut by the Atlanta Public Schools. Charter school officials told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that they tried to fill the hole before announcing the closure Friday.

Atlanta Public Schools spokesman Keith Bromery said all Atlanta schools are experiencing budget cuts. The cuts are due to an unexpected drop in property tax revenue and covering pension fund liabilities. He said the Atlanta system has plenty of room to absorb with displaced students.
